I've seen some articles, and news pieces recently on boutiques that you can go into to rent very expensive designer clothes and handbags for however long you need it. From what I saw, many people rent them for a night to wear to a very special occasion. What do you guys think about this and would you do it?

Actually, I wouldn't rent clothes. It grosses me out, sorry. I know the clothes will be cleaned properly but I don't know...
Now..jewelries...that's a big possibility. I think I'd die if I lose a piece.

Those places have been around for a while, and I've been into the boutiques a time or two with no success. The clothing tends to be in great condition but I found the styles somewhat outdated too. The ones I went to didn't seem to have much in the way of classic styles which is what I like.

Now, how designer would that be? It has been worn by other people, dry cleaned many times. Yuck!

The clothing I saw in the shops were incredibly well taken care of and laundered or cleaned. I wouldn't hesitate to wear them if I like them. Of course, that comes from someone who loves vintage clothing too so I don't have a hang up about it.

I would never do it. I would just be afraid to spill something or ruin something. I have seen some nice stuff though in the stores. I would just make sure the clothes were clean and spotless.

Haha. Right! I just can't take it. I don't ever buy second hand clothes or shoes and even bags. Well, to each his own.
But I'd probably rent a costume.

The designer shops with used clothing operate a lot differently from smelly, dirty clothing you find in thrift shops. It's a whole other league and one that can often merit some great finds.

I see shops that rent clothing like costumes, etc, and they keep them pretty well maintained, too.

Haha. I thought it's like that.
I have never seen one. Maybe I ought to visit a shop someday. Can somebody recommend a goos designer shop?

I've seen consignment stores that sell kids clothes, but haven't seen any good designer stores. Where would I look?

You mostly find them in larger cities, but a little google search should get you started.

Yes! That's what I'm talking about. I don't mean a store that you'd go into and get a wardrobe for $/£ 10.
I wouldn't do it personally because I'd be way to afraid of ruining it. I wouldn't be able to do jewelry either. I think it's cause I read a story when I was in school about this poor couple who go to this high society party, and the wife wants to make a very good impression. So she gets her husband to persuade the local jeweler to lend her a pair of expensive earrings to match her outfit. They go to this party and have the time of their life. As they are leaving, she reaches up to her ear and realizes one of the earring's gone. They spend the rest of their lives working to pay off the earrings, and they're miserable.

Funny story, but didn't they know about insurance?!?!?!
It's certainly a different strokes for different folks sort of thing. I think it's alot of fun and I'm very hygenic lol.

Don't think I could do in all honesty. I have never really been into designer clothes though. I prefert o have a wardrobe of affordable clothes over a few expensive items. I am curious as to how much renting the designer clothes would be though. Anyone got any idea?
