I had never purchased airline tickets online until last week from a 'reputable', big name online travel company. Unfortunately, it was a horrible experience, and I won't purchase my tickets online again. Have any of you purchased airline tickets online, and if so who did you order them from and what was your experience?

The only time I've ever ordered tickets for anyone, and it hasn't been for myself, I went directly to a travel agent. One job I had, I was responsible for purchasing the tickets for my boss's frequent business trips around the world. I don't know that I'd be comfortable enough to try an online service or not.

I order e-tickets all the time but I do it directly from the airlines ...there are some great online deals. I have used expedia.com and travelocity.com both and they're okay ...I've made hotel reservations with them for foreign countries and it always worked out okay. I just feel safer going directly to the airlines for my tickets.

I find it very convenient to order tickets online - I am sorry that you had such a bad experience.

Bandaid can you expand on your experience? What went wrong and how was the matter resolved?

Well, I used travelocity and what happened was when I looked up flights for my destination, we found tickets that were $300 each (2 of us were going). When we entered in all of our information and clicked to actually purchase our tickets, the website kept timing out, so we kept trying to order. After several times, I became frustrated and called travelocity. The first time I called I waited for about an hour and when the customer service representative picked up my call, they accidentally hung up. I called back and waited almost an hour and a half to speak to another representative. By the time I got through the $300 flights were sold out, and we wound up paying over $500 per ticket. To some, that might not seem like a lot, but$500 to me is about 75% of my monthly income. We had to take the $500 flight because we found out my aunt is sick, and she needed some help. About half hour after buying the tickets, my mom gets a phone call saying that they cancelled our flight home, and can we change our plans, which we did. I went online about 12 hours before our flight to book our seats with the online check-in, and tried for about 45 minutes with no luck. The whole thing was just kind of a disaster. lol Next time I'll just book through the airline.

I order my plane tickets online all the time and have never had a problem before. I think it is more convenient to order them online. I am sorry you have a bad experience.

It seems like a lot of you have had really good experiences with online ticket purchasing. Would you guys be able to tell me a little bit more about who you order with? If it's not allowed on the forum, feel free to send me a PM! Thanks guys!

Stick with the airlines themselves, and you're always safe. You can get good deals with them too.
